Biography
Deborah B. Martins, M.D., is a plastic surgery resident at the University of California, San Francisco. Debbie has an interest in global health, which she has cultivated since she first volunteered for Operation Smile in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2008 as a college student, donating her time to translate for the American medical team. In 2010, she worked as a researcher at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, investigating local trends in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. In medical school, she traveled to Maputo, Mozambique in 2013 and 2016, collaborating with local surgeons on pediatric surgery research.
During her research year, Debbie is continuing to expand her knowledge on global surgery and academic partnerships, working with the Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology on the Surgical Management and Reconstructive Training course. She is also collaborating with anesthesia and dermatology colleagues on Hidradenitis suppurativa research, as well as with with orthopedic surgery on hand surgery research.
