Dr. Amar Nijagal Joins General Surgery Residency Program Leadership

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce Dr. Amar Nijagal as Associate Program Director in the General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Nijagal will be filling the role of APD of Professional Development and Wellness.
Dr. Amar Nijagal is an Associate Professor in Residence in the Division of Pediatric Surgery. He graduated from UCSF School of Medicine in 2006, completed the UCSF General Surgery Residency in 2014, finished his fellowship in pediatric surgery at Boston Children's Hospital in 2016. He has been a member of the UCSF faculty for the past 9 years and has combined a busy clinical practice in pediatric hepatobiliary surgery with a funded investigative effort studying the role of the innate immune system and fetal development, inflammation, and carcinogenesis. He is a dedicated advocate and mentor to many residents, and his commitment to UCSF and the General Surgery Residency is unparallelled.
In his role as APD for Professional Development, he will oversee the mentorship and advising structure for all general surgery residents, serve as a resource and guide for residents as they prepare for and embark on their research years, and help lead efforts to improve resident well-being.
