Caroline Stephens, M.D. M.P.H. is a general surgery resident at UCSF, fellow in the Center for Health Equity in Surgery & Anesthesia (CHESA), and trauma research fellow at Benioff Children's Hospital of Oakland. She attended undergraduate studies at The George Washington University where she studied International Affairs with a concentration in Global Public Health, and medical school at Oregon Health & Science University where she received a M.D. and M.P.H. in Epidemiology.

Dr. Stephens has a strong interest in improving emergency health systems at home and abroad to ensure equitable access to surgical care for the most vulnerable among us. In the United States, her work focuses on improving systems for rapid triage and transfer of children during disaster events, working with collaborators in Western Regional Alliance for Pediatric Emergency Management and the Pediatric Pandemic Network. She also collaborates with surgeons in Uganda to improve systems for triage, resuscitation, and referral of pediatric patients with surgical emergencies and victims of trauma.
